2021 ASTRO Annual Meeting Press Kit

The 2021 ASTRO Annual Meeting – the leading meeting in radiation oncology – will be held October 24-27 at McCormick Place West in Chicago. Led by ASTRO President Laura A. Dawson, MD, FASTRO, the meeting is organized around the theme, “Embracing Change, Advancing Person-Centered Care.” New results from clinical trials and other research studies will be presented in conjunction with educational panels, keynote addresses and other special sessions. ASTRO is working closely with McCormick Place and the City of Chicago to ensure that COVID-19 safety protocols are in place to foster a healthy and safe learning experience for attendees. COVID-19 vaccination (or a negative COVID-19 test for medical exemptions) will be required for all meeting participants, and masks will be required throughout the convention center. Additional enhanced safety measures for the meeting include modified layouts to allow spacing in session rooms, a reconfigured exhibit hall with wider aisleways, cleaning/sanitizing rooms between sessions, touch-free technology and hand sanitizing stations throughout the convention center. ASTRO news briefings will highlight top-rated abstracts presented at the Annual Meeting and address topical issues that impact cancer care. All briefings for the 2021 meeting will be held in room 474B of McCormick Place West in Chicago, with a live webcast for off-site journalists.

Press Facilities in Chicago: ASTRO will host an on-site press office in McCormick Place West room 474A. It will be open , open Sunday, October 24, through Tuesday, October 26, from 8:00 to 5:00 pm Central time, and Wednesday, October 27 from 8:00 to 12:00 pm Central time. A printer and coffee will be provided. Reporters who join us in Chicago should pick up their meeting badges in the press office, not at the registration desk.

Press Registration

ASTRO provides complimentary meeting registration to credentialed news professionals representing media organizations for the express purpose of gathering news and information to produce editorial coverage of the ASTRO Annual Meeting.

Complimentary registration is open to representatives of print, broadcast and web-based media, including health care trade media, as well as public information officers from educational institutions, government agencies and nonprofit cancer research organizations presenting research at the ASTRO Annual Meeting. Applicants may be asked to provide media credentials, a letter of assignment, bylined articles and/or additional information to complete processing of their registration request.

Exhibitors are not permitted to register as press unless they can provide proof of editorial assignment from an accredited news organization that meets the above criteria. Public relations, marketing and/or advertising representatives, financial analysts, book publishers and book authors, and individuals from communications, print or online promotion services are welcome to register as regular attendees, however, they are not permitted to register as press. ASTRO reserves the right to bar from this and future meetings any journalist who misuses press privileges to engage in activities other than journalistic pursuits.

All abstracts to be presented at the ASTRO Annual Meeting are embargoed until 5:00 p.m. Central time on Friday, October 22, 2021. For more details, view the full embargo policy. Contact ASTRO's media relations team with questions about the embargo policy or for press access to embargoed materials.

Abstracts will be available online in the Online Conference Planner and MyASTROApp when the embargo lifts. Abstracts also will be published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics (Red Journal) at that time.
